Biography
Joseph D. Straubhaar is the Amon G. Carter, Sr. Centennial Professor of Communication at the University of Texas’ Radio-TV-Film Department and a faculty member of the Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies. He previously taught at Michigan State University. His Ph.D. in International Communication is from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. He worked as a Foreign Service Officer in Brazil and Washington, 1975-83 on human rights, television relations/flows, and public opinion. He has published extensively on global media studies; Brazilian and other Latin American television, new media, culture and politics; and on the digital divide, both domestic and international. His most recent book is Latin American Television Industries, with John Sinclair, from BFI in 2013.
